Printed Jute Bags: How to Prepare Your Artwork and Print Details for Ordering

Incomplete artwork files, unclear colour references or unconfirmed placement can lead to extra approval rounds and printing misunderstandings. This guide is the production-preparation step. It lists what to send and confirm so that the quotation, the approval and the printed bags all match. For design choices such as scale and contrast, see Designing Your Logo for a Jute Bag.

Artwork files

  • Send the logo and artwork as vector files where available (for example AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with outlined text).
  • If only raster files exist, supply the highest resolution available at the intended print size.
  • Include brand colour references (Pantone or equivalent).
  • Remove elements that will not be printed, such as backgrounds and mock-up shadows.

Print specification

  • Sides: front only, or front and back; same or different designs
  • Colours per design: the number of colours affects set-up and quotation
  • Approximate size and position on each panel
  • Bag colour: natural (undyed) or dyed, since this changes how inks appear

Method and inks

HANDCRAFT uses azo-free printing inks. Screen printing is used in customised bag work, and the suitable method and its scope are confirmed for each requirement. Do not assume gradients, photographic images or very fine detail will reproduce on jute weave; discuss alternatives such as simplified artwork or a smoother fabric like juco.

Placement around construction

Pockets, zips, windows, seams and handle stitching limit the flat area. Ask for the printable area of the specific product and size. The site’s artwork guidelines explain the details HANDCRAFT needs.

Approval

Agree who approves the artwork and how approval will be recorded. An approval photograph or physical sample may be appropriate, with sampling decided case by case. Confirm the production and delivery schedule in the quotation, including any approvals required to meet it. Changes after approval may affect that schedule.

Allowing time for print approval

Usual delivery guidance is 2–4 weeks, depending on quantity and printing. Dyeing adds two weeks and extra charges. Multi-colour or multi-design orders may need more planning time.

Common artwork problems and fixes

  • Low-resolution logo: supply a vector file instead of a screenshot or web image.
  • Thin lines or small text: thicken strokes and enlarge text for jute’s texture.
  • Gradients or photos: convert to flat colour areas for printing.
  • Too many colours: each extra colour adds set-up and approval work; a simplified version often prints more cleanly.
  • Unclear placement: mark position and size on a simple mock-up of each side.

Who approves the artwork

Name one person to give final artwork approval and send the team’s comments together. Agree the approval steps and required dates with HANDCRAFT so they can be included in the order schedule. If the artwork changes, reconfirm any effect on timing before proceeding.

Questions buyers ask

Which file format should we send?

A vector file (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) with colour references. See the artwork guidelines.

Can photographs be printed on jute?

Photographic detail rarely reproduces well on textured jute. Consider simplified artwork, or juco or cotton; see jute weave and artwork.
